Current Situation in Nepal – 10 September 2025
10 September 2025
Dear supporters,
In recent days Nepal has seen the so-called Gen Z protests, triggered by restrictions on social media. The demonstrations for freedom of expression escalated into nationwide protests against corruption and a lack of prospects. The unrest reached an unprecedented level of violence, with injuries and deaths. The Prime Minister has resigned, curfews are in force in the cities, and today the situation is slowly easing.
We would like to reassure you: our projects and facilities in the remote mountain regions are safe, and the people there are unharmed. The birthing centres and the mother-and-child hospital are operating without interruption. The schools have not been damaged either. Lessons are currently suspended but are expected to resume soon.
We remain neutral, committed to our humanitarian mission, and are doing everything we can to ensure the safety of our staff and of the people in our projects.
Thank you for continuing to stand by Nepal and for helping us to carry on our projects reliably.
Namaste,
Yours,
Stella Deetjen
