Dreams come true – lessons up to high school graduation

School building is a focus of our project work in Nepal. We aim to create new grades where there is a lack of secondary schools.

Back to Life already turned to the school in Thakaltar (Chitwan) after the earthquake in 2015, as they could no longer use part of the building for school lessons due to the damage. We added a large, two-story building with … classrooms to the two smaller, undamaged buildings. Built earthquake-proof and equipped with tables, benches and monitors to enable modern and effective teaching. At that time, 292 students attended the school, the only one far and wide that offered lessons up to 8th grade. The schools in the area only run up to 5th grade. Our first building doubled the number of students in Thakaltar, a huge success. Due to the spatial possibilities, the school was able to make a long-cherished dream come true and offer lessons up to the 10th grade. In the first school year, a total of 29 students passed the 10th grade, the SEE (School Education Examination), 18 of them are girls directly supported by Back to Life.

Education gap closed I In 2019 we added another large, equally two-storey school building to finally enable teaching in this region up to the Abitur and to close this educational gap. The school management has already applied for the necessary permits from the state school authorities and has also requested the additional teachers. The headmaster of Thakaltars, Mr. Sun Bahadur Tamang, looks hopefully into the future: “So far it was over after the 10th grade. The schools that offer the Abitur are so far away that the young people have to stay in hostels there. But only very few parents can afford that, Back to Life has so far supported those who were motivated to graduate from high school and has paid for the costs. I am happy and proud that all of my students now have this opportunity here on site. This will positively change and strengthen our region in the long term. I thank Back to Life from the bottom of my heart. “
